He Gives More Grace

(Samson) became very thirsty and called out to the LORD, “You have accomplished this great victory through your servant. Must I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?” So God split a hollow place in the ground at Lehi, and water came out of it. After Samson drank, his strength returned, and he revived.”  Judges 15:18–19 CSB

I have always been fascinated by the life of Samson. Here is a man with all the strength in the world, yet he squandered his life and calling because of desires he refused to control. But that is not the real reason I have been fascinated by him. What truly captivates my attention is the grace of God in this man's life despite his foolish living.

In the book of Judges, we have only two recorded prayers by Samson. The first is in our text above, from chapter 15. After Samson had slain his enemies out of rage, with no apparent desire to please the Lord, he cried out to God. His cry, however, was a sarcastic accusation against God. And yet, here is what is truly amazing: God actually answers Samson and provides water for him. This man is so undeserving of God's grace. He is so foolish, so carnal, and yet God graciously answers his cry. James tells the believer in James 4:6,“But He gives greater grace.”

Our Savior is so gracious to the most undeserving men and women, you and me. I am like Samson. I complain, I whine, and I lack faith, yet the Lord provides for my needs when I cry out to Him. Our God is the God of grace! That grace is always available to the believer whenever we need it, even when we act foolishly, just like Samson. So, if you find yourself in need of God's grace today, don't hesitate to ask for it, He is ready to supply you with some.
